CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Mikaela Rix and freshman Molly Erdle have gained Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week accolades respectively for their performances in Boston College's 10-9 win over No. 6/5 Duke on Saturday, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Rix, who also earned WomensLax.com Player of the Week honors this week, scored a game-high four goals to lead the Eagles to their first win over the Blue Devils in program history. The game marked the third time this season, the Garden City, N.Y., native has tallied four or more goals in a game and the sixth time she has recorded a hat trick.
She stands at sixth in the ACC with 2.67 goals per game and leads BC with 39 draw controls and 21 ground balls.
Erdle, a rookie defender, marked Kerrin Maurer, who leads Duke and ranks fourth in the ACC with 3.83 points per game, not allowing the attacker to record a point or a shot. The Lone Tree, Colo., native anchored a BC defense which held Duke to its second-lowest scoring output of the season.
The Mullen High School graduate helped BC surrender only six goals over the game's last 55 minutes and helped BC maintain a lead over the game's final 33:30. Her efforts aided BC to its second win over a top-10 opponent in as many games while also setting a new school high for ACC wins in a season with three.
Boston College resumes play at New Hampshire tomorrow at 4 p.m.
