Softball Falls in Series Finale to Virginia Tech

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College softball team hung tough early on against ACC foe Virginia Tech, but nine Hokies runs in the fourth and fifth innings made the difference in an 11-3 five inning loss on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea Dimon dropped to 8-11 this season as she allowed six earned runs on nine hits over four innings. Stephanie Lord entered the game in relief in the fifth inning – surrendering five earned runs on four hits over an inning of work. Jasmin Harrell (12-6) started her second consecutive game for the Hokies – allowing three earned runs on two hits over four innings. Kelly Heinz got the final three outs for Virginia Tech in the win.
Dani Anderson led the Hokies with a 4-for-4, HR, 3 RBI performance while freshman third baseman Jessie Daulton (2-for-2) homered for the fourth time in her last seven games for the Eagles as her home run cut the Hokies lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning.
Virginia Tech put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth on the strength of Kylie McGoldrick’s sixth homer of the season as the Hokies added five runs in the inning to take an 11-2 lead.
The Eagles loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth – scoring one run but reliever Kelly Heinz prevented BC from extending the game by striking out Maria Pandolfo to end it.
The Eagles will host Providence College on Wednesday afternoon – first pitch slated for 4 p.m. at Shea Field.
