No. 18/13 Lacrosse Hosts VA Tech

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse squad will open its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule at home against Virginia Tech on Saturday, March 10. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will take place at BC’s Newton Sports Complex.

Boston College Notes
• BC is currently 3-2 on the season. Earlier this week, the Eagles lost a hard-fought battle, 13-12, at No. 7 Vanderbilt on March 7.
• The Eagles are currently ranked 18th in the nation according to the IWLCA coaches’ poll released on March 5. In the latest deBeer women's media poll, BC moved up one spot to No. 13.
• Boston College holds a 3-0 record so far this season when scoring first. The Eagles are also undefeated when they hold the lead at halftime.
• BC is currently nationally ranked in the top 20 for five statistical categories. The team is ranked 12th in draw controls (15.25), 13th in scoring offense (14.75), 17th in ground balls per game (17.75), 18th in win percentage (0.75) and 20th in points (78.0).
• The Eagles have been playing aggressively so far this season, controlling more draws, 78-63, and scooping up more ground balls, 80-64, than their opponents.
• Freshman Mikaela Rix, who leads the team with 18 goals and 20 points, has registered at least a hat trick in each of the team’s five games so far this season. She had a season-high five goals at Vanderbilt and is currently ranked 23rd in the nation for goals per game.
• Grad student and captain Kristin Igoe continues to make her mark in the BC history books. With two goals at Vandy, she improved her career totals at The Heights to 133 goals and 175 points to take over fourth place on the school’s all-time records list in those respective categories.
• Freshman Covie Stanwick and junior Brooke Blue have added to the offensive attack for the Eagles this season. Stanwick is tied for second on the team with 17 total points, while Blue has 12 points.
• Freshman goalkeeper Emily Mata tied a season-high with seven saves in her second-career start at Vanderbilt. She has a team-best 26 saves so far this year.
Scouting Virginia Tech
• Virginia Tech is currently 4-2 in 2012. In their last outing, the Hokies downed American, 14-11, on March 7.
• Jessica Nonn leads the offensive attack for VA Tech. She has 16 goals and six assists for 22 points so far this season.
• Megan Will and Brooke Martin have also been essential to the Hokies’ offense in 2012, tallying 16 and 15 total points, respectively, thus far.
• Goalkeeper Alex Gale has logged 24 saves for a .324 save percentage in her 329 minutes of action.
Series History
• The Eagles won the last meeting against the Hokies, earning a 17-3 decision in the first round of the ACC Tournament on April 21, 2011.
• Boston College leads the all-time series against Virginia Tech, 7-4.
