No. 20 Lacrosse Prepares for No. 9 Virginia

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College lacrosse returns to action with its second-straight Atlantic Coast Conference matchup, as the Eagles square off against Virginia on Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m. The game will take place at the Cavaliers’ Klöckner Stadium.

2012 Season Notes
Boston College Notes
• BC currently owns a 5-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the ACC. The Eagles fell to No. 3 North Carolina, 9-8, in a closely-contested battle on March 24, and defeated Harvard, 7-5, on March 21.
• The Eagles are ranked at No. 20 in the nation according to the IWLCA coaches’ poll released on March 26.
• Boston College holds a 5-0 record so far this season when the team leads at the half.
• BC is currently nationally ranked in the top 25 for two statistical categories. The team is ranked 19th in draw controls (14.00) and 24th in points (166.0).
• The Eagles have been playing aggressively so far this season, outscoring their opponents, 125-118, and controlling more draws, 140-121.
• Freshmen Covie Stanwick and Mikaela Rix lead the offensive effort for BC. Stanwick is first on the team in assists (14) and total points (33), while Rix has a team-high 28 goals.
• Grad student and captain Kristin Igoe continues to make her mark in the BC history books. She currently sits in third place on the school’s all-time record list for total points with 187, and with 143 goals, she is just one goal shy of moving into third place on the career record list for that category.
• Senior Brittany Wilton has 38 draw controls so far this season, good for 30th in the nation. With five draw controls against North Carolina, the attacker-turned-midfielder improved to 174 career draws to move into first place on BC’s all-time record list.
• Junior Brooke Blue and senior Sam Taylor have added to the Eagles’ attack this season with 21 and 16 points, respectively.
• Freshman goalkeeper Emily Mata was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of March 27 after turning in two complete-game performances last week. She recorded 23 saves on 56 shots, including 15 against North Carolina to hold the Tar Heels to their lowest goal-output in a win so far this season.
Scouting Virginia
• Virginia is currently 7-4 overall and 1-2 in conference action. In their last outing, the Cavaliers held off Old Dominion for a 14-13 win on March 28.
• UVA moved up three spots to No. 9 in the IWLCA coaches’ poll released on March 26. Virginia also improved its ranking in the latest deBeer women’s media poll to No. 11.
• Senior attacker Josie Owen, who was named ACC Player of the Week for the week of March 27, leads the team with 21 goals, 28 assists and 49 total points.
• Sloan Warren and Ainsley Baker add to the UVA offensive effort with 23 and 17 points, respectively.
Series History
• Saturday’s contest will mark the 10th meeting all-time between Boston College and Virginia. The Cavaliers lead the series, 8-1.
• Virginia won eight consecutive meetings, dating back to 1994, but BC earned the 12-6 decision when the teams last squared off on April 2, 2011.
