Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team hosts Maryland for a three-game, Atlantic Coast Conference series this weekend at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Shea Field. The first game is scheduled for Friday, March 30 at 2:30 p.m.
The Eagles (10-14, 2-7 ACC) are coming off taking their first ACC series win, beating then-14th -ranked Georgia Tech twice, 15-7, and 4-3, while losing the series finale, 2-1. After falling to cross-town rival Northeastern in a midweek matchup, BC came back to beat Bryant, 5-3, at home in the 10th inning on a walk-off, two-run homer by senior Spenser Payne.
The Terrapins (17-9, 2-7 ACC) lost two-of-three to No. 7 Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., before defeating St. John, 16-4, on Wednesday night.
BC is 13-5 against Maryland since the Eagles joined the ACC in 2006 and 7-2 at Shea Field. The Eagles have won every series with the Terps, including sweeping the three games in 2008 at home.
Senior Anthony Melchionda earned ACC Player of the Week honors for his 8-for-19 (.421) performance over the past week. Freshman Blake Butera, who hit the game-winning, walk-off single in the 4-3 win against the Yellow Jackets, was one of CollegeBaseball360.com's Primetime Performers of the weekend.
Last season, the Maroon and Gold took two-of-three at College Park, Md., winning the first game, 7-4, and the third game, 4-1, but dropping the second, 4-3. In game one, seven different relievers combined to throw eight shutout innings. Current junior RHP Hunter Gordon picked up his first win of the season after throwing 2.0 perfect innings. Senior RHP Matt Brazis also threw a perfect pair of frames. Melchionda went 3-for-5 with a double. In game two, sophomore Tom Bourdon had a pair of hits with an RBI. Senior RHP Nate Bayuk was hit with the loss on the mound after throwing 4.0 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.
