
Men's Tennis Falls to Maryland, 6-1

College Park, Md. - The Boston College men's tennis team lost to Maryland, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at Cole Field House Tennis Courts. The Eagles (4-6, 0-4 ACC) earned their point in a single victory and took one of the three doubles matches from the Terrapins (4-8, 1-2 ACC).
Junior Klaus Puestow earned the lone BC point in the No. 6 position, defeating Tommy Laine, after dropping the first set, 6-2. He rallied to come back and win the second set, 6-4, and then earned the tie-breaking win, 10-8. Sophomore Jonathan Raude also played to the tiebreaker on court five, earning a first-set victory, 6-2, over Jesse Kiuru, but losing the second set in a close battle, 7-6 (7-3). He then dropped the tiebreaker, 10-6.
Senior Akash Muppidi lost in the No. 1 spot, dropping two sets to Vlad Stefan, 6-2, 6-4. Maryland's Maros Horny defeated senior Alex Skinner in the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-1, while Sergio Wyss defeated Billy Grokenberger, 6-1, 6-3, on court three. Freshman Philip Nelson lost to John, 6-2, 6-3, on court four.
In doubles action, Muppidi and Skinner earned a victory on court one, defeating Horny and Collins, 8-5. Laine and Stefan earned an 8-2 victory over Nelson and Gronkenberger on court two and Kiuru and Andy Magee tallied an 8-0 win over freshman Matt Wagner and sophomore Michael McGinnis to earn the doubles point.
The Eagles play No. 5 Virginia on March 17 at 1 p.m.
