Three Eagles Play In NEIBA All-Star Game

LOWELL, Mass. - Three Boston College baseball players competed in the 37th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game Thursday night at LeLacheur Park that ended in a 3-3 tie.
Senior Garret Smith, junior Kyle Prohovich and sophomore Matt McGovern each represented the Eagles in the annual event. The trio played for the University Division Team that was made up of Division I All-Stars. They faced the College Division Team that was composed of Division II All-Stars and Division III Senior All-Stars.
The University Division came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. The game ended in a tie after the scheduled nine innings were completed.
Smith scored one of the runs for the University team in the bottom of the eighth inning after reaching on a fielder's choice. He also pitched the seventh and did not allow a hit while striking out two.
Prohovich followed Smith on the mound and worked a perfect eighth with a strikeout. McGovern was 0-for-3 after coming in as a substitute in center field.
The tie was only the second in the 37 year history of the NEIBA All-Star Game. The last was 1986 when the two teams finished the game scoreless.
