Baseball Falls At Rhode Island, 4-0

KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior Anthony Melchionda went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple as the Boston College baseball team lost at Rhode Island, 4-0, Wednesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
Melchionda hit his team-leading third triple and ninth extra base hit of the season. Redshirt freshman Matt Alvarez threw 2.0 hitless innings on the mound while junior Andrew Lawrence was saddled with the loss.
Pat Fortunato went 2-for-3 at the dish for Rhode Island (11-11) with a pair of RBIs. Mike LeBel and Kyle Borden added the other runs with solo homers. Anthony Pisani got the win after throwing 7.0 shutout innings, allowing four hits and fanning nine.
LeBel gave Rhode Island the lead in the bottom of the first when he hit a leadoff home run to dead center on the first pitch he saw.
The Rams scored another run in the second for a two-run lead. Greg Annarummo singled with one out and Milan Adams walked with two to put men on first and second. Fortunato drove in Annarummo with a single through the left side to make it 2-0.
Borden made it a three-run cushion in the fourth with another leadoff home run and then another Fortunato RBI single in the seventh provided the 4-0 win.
The Eagles (10-13) host Miami at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field for a three-game ACC series beginning Friday at 2:30 p.m.
