Baseball Loses At Northeastern, 2-1, In 11 Innings

BROOKLINE, Mass. - Northeastern loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning and scored on a wild pitch to beat the Boston College baseball team, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
After a strikeout and a 6-3 groundout, Oliver Hart and Alan Pastyrnak, Jr. drew consecutive walks to put men on first and second. Aaron Barbosa came to the plate and swung at strike three but the pitch was wild and he reached first to load the bases. Matt Miller then stepped to the plate and the first pitch to him reached the backstop, allowing Hart to score the game-winning run.
Both teams had plenty of chances to score runs as BC (10-12) left eight runners on base while the Huskies (5-16) stranded 10.
Barbosa went 3-for-5 at the plate for Northeastern while Jon Leroux went 2-for-5. Pete Castoldi had the lone RBI. JT Ross started on the mound and threw 9.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits. Dylan Maki got the win as he threw the last 2.0 and struck out a pair.
Junior Brad Zapenas went 3-for-5 for the Eagles while senior Matt Hamlet reached base three times. He went 2-for-3 and drove in the only BC run. Senior Garret Smith was hit with the loss on the mound.
Northeastern scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth. Jeff Dunlap and Leroux hit consecutive singles with one to put men on first and second and then Jimmy Filter recorded one of his own to load the bases. Pete Castoldi flew out deep enough to right to score Dunlap to give the Huskies the lead.
The Eagles tied the game up with a run of their own in the fifth. Sophomore Matt McGovern was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then junior Spenser Payne got an infield single to put the first two men on base. Hamlet tied the game with an RBI single to left.
BC heads back to Kingston, R.I. Wednesday to face Rhode Island at 3:30 p.m.
