Nevada Classic Game 1 - Softball Falls To FIU, 11-7

Reno, Nev. - Junior third baseman Ali Lynette-Krech batted 3-for-4 with one run and two RBIs, but the Boston College softball fell, 11-7, to FIU in the first game of the Nevada Classic on Friday, March 11 in Reno, Nev.
Junior catcher Brittany Wilkins belted her ACC leading seventh home run of the season and drove in three runs with a .500 performance at the plate for the Eagles (4-12).
Allison Gage (0-6) took the loss for BC. The senior threw 3.1 innings, struck out two batters, walked one and allowed seven runs.
Freshman Morgan Kidd tossed 3.2 innings in a relief appearance, striking out three, walking three and letting in four runs.
Mari Dawson (4-3) collected the win with a seven run, eight strikeout, two walk showing in 6.1 innings.
Lynette-Krech opened the scoring with a one run blast in the second.
FIU (11-11) answered with two runs in the third. With two outs, Beth Pellar was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on an infield single from Brie Rojas. Both runners came around when Ash McClain doubled to left center to give the Panthers the lead, 2-1.
In the top of the sixth, FIU tacked on six more runs. A double from Patt Zavala and a single by Mari Daswon put runners on the corners. A fielding error enabled Zavala to score and a hit from Rojas loades the bases for McClain, who cleared the bases with a grand slam. After a BC pitching change, Jes Alfonso doubled to left and was about to come around on a sac fly to center to end the scoring, 8-1.
Wilkins' two-run homer countered one run from FIU in the fifth, 9-3.
The Panthers added one run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings, 11-3.
Boston College pushed the final score to 11-7 with a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman Alana Dimaso led off with a double to right center. Sophomore Nicole D'Argento singled to left, plating Dimaso, and was able to advance to third on throwing errors by the Panthers, before being cashed in on a sac fly from Wilkins. Senior Gemma Ypparila then singled to left and was pinch run for by freshman Chelsea LoBue. Classmate Tory Speer singled up the middle and advanced to third, as LoBue came around, on an error by the FIU second baseman. The Eagles scoring concluded when Lynette-Krech's drove in Speer on a single up the middle.
The Eagles will take on Nevada in the late game of day one at the Nevada Classic at approximately 3 p.m. (PT).
