Red Sox Defeat Baseball, 6-0, In Annual Exhibition

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Boston College baseball team lost its annual exhibition to the Boston Red Sox, 6-0, in front of 5,824 fans at City of Palms Park.
Senior Geoff Oxley was hit with the loss while Stolmy Pimental earned the win after pitching 2.0 perfect innings.
Seniors Dave Laufer and Garret Smith and sophomore Hunter Gordon each threw a scoreless inning on the mound.
Junior Jim Laufer broke up the Red Sox no-hitter in the top of the seventh. He singled down the line in left and was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double. Laufer left the field to a rousing applause from the fans.
Senior Mike Sudol was the only other base runner for the Eagles when he drew a walk in the top of the fifth.
The Red Sox didn't waste any time and went ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Oxley earned the start on the mound and made his first appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May. He walked a couple of batters before Kevin Youkilis went the opposite way for a home run.
The Sox added two more runs in the third to build a five-run lead. Ryan Kalish singled in a run and Lars Anderson brought in the other with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Red Sox tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-0 on an Alex Hassan sacrifice fly.
BC wraps up the weekend with the series finale at No. 1 Florida Sunday at 1 p.m.
