Eagles Drop Match, 4-3, to No. 63 Maryland

Junior Akash Muppidi earned his first win over a ranked opponent this season with a defeat of the nation's 58th ranked Maros Horny at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, but for the second time in three matches, the Boston College men's tennis team was topped by a single point by a nationally ranked team, falling to Campbell/ITA No. 63 Maryland, 4-3, on Feb. 23 in Weymouth, Mass.
The Eagles (4-6, 0-2 ACC) captured the doubles point with wins on court one and three. At No. 1 doubles, junior Akash Muppidi and sophomore Billy Grokenberger defeated Maros Horny and Andy Magee, 8-2. Seniors Adam Davison and Erik Kreutzer emerged victorious for the third straight match, besting the Terps' pairing of Jesse Kiuru and Tommy Laine, 8-5, on No. 3 doubles.
Freshman Jonathan Raude also contributed to BC's point total with a three-set win over Magee, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 4 singles.
Maryland (7-2, 1-2 ACC) was able to win four of the singles matches to escape with its first conference win of the year.
The Eagles will travel to Blacksburg, Va. for a Feb. 26 meeting with the Hokies (7-4, 1-1 ACC) at 10:30 a.m.
