CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
For the first time in the Division I history of the program, the Boston College women’s lacrosse team has earned a preseason ranking. According to four different polls, the Eagles are listed as 17th or 19th heading into the 2011 season.
The IWLCA Division I Poll, voted on by collegiate women’s lacrosse coaches, released February 9, ranks BC 19th. Four other ACC schools are listed in the Top 20 as well, including number-one Maryland. Both Laxpower and Lacrosse Magazine place the Eagles at 19th as well.
BC received its highest ranking, 17th, from Inside Lacrosse’s early 2011 Media Poll.
Last season, BC rose as high as 17th in the rankings. It was the first time a BC squad had ever received a Division I national ranking.
“It’s always an honor to earn recognition and respect from outside entities; however, we all know that the only poll that ultimately matters is the one at the end of the season,” Head Coach Bowen Holden said. “Nonetheless, this is another stepping stone in the growth of our program and is undoubtedly deserved. We look forward to each game that lies ahead!”
The Eagles will begin the 2011 campaign at #19/20 Hofstra on Wednesday, February 16 in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
