BC women's fencing was 4-2 and the men's team went 4-1 on Saturday in Northeast Fencing Conference action at Brown University.
Each of the two losses for the women was by a single bout with the Brandeis match coming down to the final touch of the final bout before it was decided. The foil squad proved to be the powerhouse for the day with Christine Cook going 17-1 and Jennifer Colacino 14-1. Junior Chelsea Rosenbauer returned to the line-up to go 13-5 in sabre and Ali Letendre was 11-5 in epee. "It was a very good day for us," Head Coach Syd Fadner said. "The two one-bout losses were disappointing, and cost us a chance to win the conference, but it's a sign of how competitive the NFC has become."
The men's team beat rivals MIT and Brandeis while dropping their match against Vassar. "We were only able to pull out two wins against Vassar in epee, and that made the difference in the match," said Fadner. Peter Souders was 12-1 in sabre, improving his season record to an amazing 30-4. Patrick Riley and Sjur Hoftun each won 11 bouts in foil and Albert Starshak was 8-4 in epee.
