Boston College football coach Frank Spaziani has named sophomore quarterback Dave Shinskie the starter for the Eagles' season opener September 4 vs. Weber State.
Shinskie, who started 10 games last season as a freshman, battled sophomore Mike Marscovetra and freshmen Chase Rettig and Josh Bordner in preseason camp to earn the start. Shinskie came to Boston College last season as a 25-year-old freshman after playing professional baseball for seven years. He set BC freshman passing records with 2,049 yards and 15 touchdowns. He completed 149 of 288 passes (51.7) with 14 interceptions.
"Dave had a very good camp," Spaziani said. "He is the incumbent, and we won games with him last year. He has improved and he is certainly deserving."

Spaziani also announced that redshirt freshman defensive tackle Dillon Quinn will be suspended for the first three games of the season due to an undisclosed violation of team rules.
