CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College softball team started their 2010 home schedule off on the wrong foot with a tough non-conference loss to Connecticut 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Shea Field.
The loss drops Boston College to 9-11 for the season, while the win improves the Huskies to 7-14.
The Eagles got in a big hole early as Connecticut jumped all over BC starter Taylor Peyton (4-7) in the top of the first inning to a tune of four runs on four hits.
UConn extended its lead in the top of the second inning to 5-0, which spelled the end of the day for Peyton.
Peyton went one and a third innings giving up five runs (three earned), on six hits, while walking one.
The BC offense had no answer for Connecticut starting pitcher Kiki Saveriano who pitched a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts.
BC had only two hits on the day as freshman Maria Pandolfo broke up the no-hit bid in the bottom of the third with a single, and junior Rene Delagrammaticas added a single of her own in the sixth.
The Eagles are now 1-8 on the season when they score two runs or less in a game.
Boston College will travel back down south to start ACC play on Saturday, March 27 as it will take on Florida State. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
