The Boston College lacrosse team lost a hard fought battle against No. 2 Maryland, 7-6 on Saturday afternoon in College Park, Md.
The Eagles drop to 6-1 on the season while the Terrapins move to 8-0
The Terps jumped out to an early lead by notching the first three scores of the game before the 25:21 mark of the first half. Neither team would be able to register any points for the next ten minutes, but it would be the Eagles who would strike at 5:53 on a goal by junior Jill Rekart with an assist by senior Lauren Costello.
Another two Maryland scores and a tally by for BC by junior Kristin Igoe would send the teams into halftime with the score set at 5-2 in favor of Maryland.
The two teams would trade off the next four goals, with Costello registering both of BC's, to make the score 7-4 at the 13:41 point of the second half. The Eagles rallied to pull within two on a score by sophomore Brittany Wilton at 3:28 on a free position shot.
Costello would then add another at 1:45 thanks to an assist from Igoe to put the score at 7-6. Despite the excellent pressure by BC, that would be all the scoring for the contest.
Junior goalie Sheila Serafino made 14 saves in net for the Eagles as Maryland outshot BC, 23-9.
Boston College will return home this week to host Vermont on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
