CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team has announced its two captains for the upcoming 2011 season.
Attacker Jill Amo and defender Jill Rekart were chosen as captains for their commitment and dedication to the program in addition to their leadership skills.
Amo played in 11 games last season, starting in four including the final three matches. She registered two goals and three assists for five points, as well as tallying eight ground balls, 14 draw controls, and four turnovers. Her season highlight was scoring the game-winning goal against Iona on April 7. Amo is a star off the field as well, earning a spot on the All-ACC Honor Roll last season and third consecutive Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement.
Rekart has played in all 52 games in her career, starting in 51 of them. Last season he led the team in caused turnovers with 20, and finished second on the team in ground balls with 31. Her 21 draw controls placed her fourth on the team leaders list. She tallied five goals and three assists for eight points. For her on-field efforts, Rekart was named a Second Team Regional All-American in 2010, and she was also named to the All-ACC Honor Roll.
"I'm proud of the work these two have done during their careers, and I feel they are a solid representation of our program," Head Coach Bowen Holden said. "I am confident in their ability to lead our team in 2011, and I know they have an incredible supporting cast in their fellow classmates. All five seniors will be instrumental to our success this season."
The Eagles will open the 2011 season with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Hofstra on Wednesday, February 16.
