GREEENSBORO, N.C. - The Boston College baseball team earned the eighth seed in the 2009 ACC Baseball Championship and will face No. 7 Florida State in its first game on Wednesday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Seminoles hold the top seed in the tournament with a 19-9 league record. Two of those losses came at the hands of the Eagles in Tallahassee in the first ACC series of the season back in early March. Boston College finished its ACC season with a record of 13-15. FSU won the Atlantic Division while BC finished third.
The Eagles will then take on No. 7 Georgia Tech on Thursday before finishing pool play on Friday against No. 21 Miami. Both of those games are scheduled for noon. The Yellow Jackets (17-10-1) are the fourth seed and the Hurricanes (17-12) are the fifth seed. BC only played Georgia Tech once in Atlanta and lost 5-4 thanks to three unearned runs. Miami took two of three from the Eagles in Chestnut Hill earlier this month.
Division B of the 2009 ACC Championship consists of second-seeded No. 4 North Carolina (19-10), third-seeded No. 14 Clemson (19-11), sixth-seeded No. 10 Virginia (16-11-1) and seventh-seeded Duke (15-15).
Under the pool-play format, each team will play one game against each of the other three opponents in its division Wednesday-Saturday (May 20-23). The two teams with the best records within their respective division brackets will advance to the title game on Sunday, May 24, with the winner earning the ACC's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
All 13 games of this year's 36th annual ACC Baseball Championship will be televised for the third straight year with RSN, a regional network that includes Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, FOX Sports Net South, FOX Sports Florida and New England Sports Network, providing coverage.
