The Boston College softball team (6-9, 0-0 ACC) fell to Chattanooga, 5-3, at Frost Stadium in a game added to the schedule earlier in the week.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first in the top half of the second inning. A hit by pitch and two walks loaded the bases for BC. The Eagles forced in two runs when Brittany Wilkins was hit by a pitch, and Amy Tunstall walked two batters later.
Chattanooga hit a two-run home run off of BC starting pitcher Allison Gage (2-2) in the bottom of the third inning, but the Eagles would take the lead in the top half of the fifth inning. Taylor Peyton led off the inning with a double, and Dani Weir reached on a throwing error to put runners on first and third base. Though Weir stole second base, Peyton was picked off trying to score on the play.
But Alison Kooistra singled, and, later, with runners on second and third base, pinch hitter Gemma Ypparila followed with another single through the right side to drive home Weir for a 3-2 BC lead.
The Eagles took the lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, before the Lady Mocs rallied for three runs (two unearned) off of Gage, and Morgan Kidd.
Gage pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, while walking one and striking out one.
Though Kooistra hit a one out single to put the tying run on first base, Blair Destito and Angela Pandolfo hit back-to-back pop outs to end the game.
The Eagles and Lady Mocs were scheduled to play last Saturday in the Frost Classic, but rain forced the cancellation of that game.
BC will travel to Atlanta for games against Toledo and Kennesaw State at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech.
