
Softball Beats Toledo, Falls To Kennesaw State in Buzz Classic

The Boston College softball team split two games this afternoon, beating Toledo, 11-2, before losing to Kennesaw State, 2-1, in the first day of the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga.
BC-11, Toledo-2 - The Eagles hit three home runs, and had their highest scoring output of the season in an 11-2 win in six innings over Toledo. Amy Tunstall, Blair Destito, and Dani Weir all homered for the Eagles in support of Taylor Peyton (5-5) who allowed one run in five innings of work for the win.
The BC offense got things going early with an RBI double in the first inning by Gemma Ypparila, and an unearned run in the second which gave the Eagles an early 2-1 lead in the contest.
In the top of the fourth inning, Dani Weir led off the inning with her first home run of the season, pushing the BC lead to 3-1.
Then the Eagles added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning on the strength of the long ball. With runners on first and second base, pinch hitter Blair Destito hit a three-run home run over the center field wall for a 6-1 lead.
BC opened up the top of the sixth inning with four straight hits. Brittany Wilkins walked, and Irene Delagrammaticas followed with a double to center field. Peyton singled to drive home one run, and Amy Tunstall followed with a three run home run to left field for a 10-1 BC lead. The Eagles would add another run on an RBI double by Ali-Lynette Krech, before Wilkins ended the inning with a ground out.
Kennesaw State-2, BC-1 - Allison Gage pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, but the Eagles were held in check by Kennesaw State's pitching until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Trailing 2-0, Dani Weir led off the inning with her second home run of the day over the center field wall. With one out in the inning, Alison Koositra was hit by a pitch to put the tying run on first base. But the BC threat ended quietly with a fielder's choice and a groundout, giving the Owls a 2-1 win.
BC will continue action in the Buzz Classic with games against Florida A&M and Mercer tomorrow at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
