
Softball Falls to Mercer, 5-1, In Nine Innings

The Boston College softball team (8-11, 0-0 ACC) fell to Mercer, 5-1, in nine innings in the Buzz Classic hosted by Georgia Tech.
The Bears rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead, and the Eagles, who were held hitless in extra innings, could not answer.
Allison Gage pitched her third complete game of the season, working nine innings allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits while walking one and striking out three.
The Eagles took an early lead in the top of third inning, with two consecutive hits to start the frame. Alison Kooistra doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Katrina Vasquez hit a bunt single, forcing an error by the pitcher that led to a run, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Mercer would rally for a double and an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game and scored four runs on three hits in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead for good.
The Eagles will conclude action in the Buzz Classic with a game against Purdue on Sunday at 10 a.m.
