
Lacrosse loses to Virginia Tech 16-14 In Overtime

Blacksburg, VA - The Boston College women's lacrosse team lost in their ACC conference opener to Virginia Tech on the road Saturday afternoon 16-14.
The loss drops the Eagles to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the ACC.
The Eagles got off to a swift start winning the battle to be first on the board, netting three goals before allowing the Hokies on the board. Sophomore Kristin Igoe opened the scoring for BC and junior Lauren Costello added back-to-back tallies to start off the first period.
After allowing one goal to Tech on a free position shot BC started another three goal run with tallies by freshman Sam Taylor, Igoe and senior Jenna McCabe to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead.
The two teams traded goals throughout the rest of the first before Virginia Tech rattled off four goals to pull the score to 8-7 and bring them within one point of tying the game. Taylor added another goal in the first to put the Eagles at nine to end the first before the Hokies tallie one last goal to send the teams into the half with the score 9-8.
Tech notched back-to-back goals to begin the second half to tie the score at nine before Igoe and McCabe put the Eagles ahead by two.
The Eagles and Hokies traded the next set of goals before Virginia Tech retied the score at 13-13.
Igoe added one more to put BC up 14-13, but the Hokies again tied the score sending the game into overtime.
In the extra frame Virginia Tech added two goals to give them the 16-14 win.
Igoe led the Eagles with seven points on five goals and two assists and senior goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made 12 saves in the loss.
The Eagles will take on Holy Cross in non-conference play on the road on Wednesday March 18 at 4 p.m.
