Bailey Wins 800m at ACC Indoor Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior Caitlyn Bailey won her first conference title when she clocked a 2:08.00 in the 800m run at the 2009 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Florida State won the team title with 132 points while North Carolina came in second with 104. Clemson finished in third with 85 points. Boston College placed 11th with 23 points.
Bailey finally broke through in the 800m after finishing second at the ACC Championships as a freshman and third as a sophomore. Bailey won the race by .13 seconds over North Carolina's Callie Pottinger.
Graduate student Mary Heitkamp placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:11.70 while junior Samantha Gawrych took seventh at 2:11.83.
Junior Gretchen Andrus finished eighth in the mile by crossing the line in 4:55.53. Graduate student Nikki Tufts placed eighth in the 3000m with a time of 9:46.41 while junior Mallory Champa finished ninth at 9:47.24.
On Friday, the distance medley relay team of sophomore Siobhan Breagy, senior Mallory Champa, freshman Anna Cioffredi and sophomore Madeline Wallace finished third with a time of 11:38.16.
The women will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the ECAC Championships that will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
