Belfiore Named No. 7 Prospect In Diamondbacks Organization

Former Boston College LHP Mike Belfiore is listed as the No. 7 prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization by Baseball America.
Belfiore was selected by Arizona in Comp Round A (45th overall) in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Belfiore, who was the Eagles' closer in 2008 and 2009, is being converted into a starter as a professional. He spent his entire season with the Missoula Osprey, Arizona's rookie affiliate, in Montana. He started 11 games and appeared in 14. He ended the year with a 2.17 ERA and a 2-2 record. In his 11 starts, Belfiore was even more effective with a 1.82 ERA.
The Commack, N.Y. native tossed 58.0 innings and allowed 29 runs (14 earned) on 59 hits. He struck out 55 batters while walking just 13. Opposing hitters batted .259 against him.
Belfiore earned his first professional win on August 6 against the Great Falls Voyagers. He worked 5.0 innings, allowed three hits and did not allow a run while fanning eight batters.
His other win came against Billings in his best start of the season on August 28. He threw a season-high 8.0 innings and allowed an unearned run on six hits. He struck out nine and walked just one batter.
