CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Tyler Roche scored a career-high 30 points to lead Boston College to an 89-58 season-opening victory over Dartmouth before 4,277 fans in Conte Forum.
Roche, whose previous career high was 17 points, shot 10-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-5 from three-point range. He sank 6-of-9 free-throw attempts. The senior from Hooksett, N.H., tallied 15 points in each half.
Sophomore Reggie Jackson scored 16 points, junior Joe Trapani netted 11 points and sophomore Dallas Elmore had 10 points to round out BC's list of double-figure scorers. Jackson and Roche both logged 38 minutes.
The score was tied 9-9 nearly five minutes into the game, before BC ran off seven straight points - five by Jackson - to gain control.
Dartmouth trimmed the Eagles' margin to four points at 18-14 with 11:25 left in the half, before the home team used a 13-2 run to claim a 31-16 lead. Roche scored 10 points in this decisive stretch, including two treys to finish the run.
The visiting Big Green converted a three-point play to stop the BC rally, but the Eagles answered with nine consecutive points - scored by five different players - to take a commanding 40-19 lead with 2:53 left before the intermission.
BC, which shot 66.7 percent (14-for-21) from the field in the first 20 minutes, finished the half with a 45-23 margin.
Dartmouth enjoyed a brief rally to start the second half, closing the BC margin to 15 points (49-34) with 17:10 to play, but BC then outscored the Big Green 25-5 to extend its advantage to 74-39 with just more than six minutes remaining.
Game Notes: BC played the game without the services of juniors Cortney Dunn, Corey Raji and Rakim Sanders. The trio were suspended for two games for a violation of team rules. They will return to action for the Eagles' game against Saint Joseph's in the Paradise Jam on Nov. 20 ... Roche surpassed his previous career high on a free throw with 13:00 remaining in the game. He registered his 30th point on a lay-in - off a great feed from Trapani - with 4:19 left. Roche is the first BC player to register 30 (or more) points in a game since Tyrese Rice netted 32 points against NC State on Feb. 14, 2008 ... BC outrebounded Dartmouth, 38-22 ... BC recorded eight blocked shots - five by Roche and three by Elmore.
