CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College football team will head to Blacksburg Saturday to take on No. 5 Virginia Tech at noon at Lane Stadium. The game will be aired live on Raycom and the BC/ISP Radio Network.
The two programs have met four times in the last two years with the Eagles taking both regular season contests. They have also met in the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game the last two years with the Hokies coming away with the conference crown both times.
BC is the last team to beat the Hokies at Lane Stadium. Matt Ryan threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Andre Callender with 11 seconds left to take the win, 14-10, two years ago.
Virginia Tech's offense starts with its running attack which is led by redshirt freshman RB Ryan Williams. He is eighth in the country in rushing, averaging 115 yards per game, on a team that ranks 24th nationally with 203.20 yards per outing.
In addition, junior QB Tyrod Taylor is a threat with his arm and his legs. He is averaging more than 17 yards a game on the ground and is 51-for-94 in the air for 869 yards. He has thrown six touchdowns and just one interception.
"Tyrod is a very talented player," senior FS Marcellus Bowman said. "He is very fast and he has a strong arm as well. We have to stay disciplined or else he will burn us with the big play. They have a lot of gifted athletes who can run the ball down there so we have to get to the ball as fast as possible and finish tackles. If we don't, they will exploit us all day long."
Boston College enters the game ranked 20th in scoring defense (15.40) and first downs defense (15.40), 25th in rush defense (101.00) and 26th in passing defense (294.00).
