Gary Tranquill has been named Offensive Coordinator for the Boston College football team, Head Coach Frank Spaziani announced today.
"Gary Tranquill might be one of the best football coaches in America," Spaziani said. "He is a great teacher, and I welcome his experience to our staff. I have coached with Gary, and I have coached against him. Believe me, I like coaching with him better."
Tranquill has worked for some of the top coaches in college football, including Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, Frank Beamer, George Welsh, Don Nehlen and Woody Hayes. He was the head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1982-86; quarterback coach for the Cleveland Browns (1991-93); offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech (1994); offensive coordinator at Michigan State (1995-98); offensive coordinator at Virginia (1999-2000); offensive coordinator at North Carolina (2001-05). In 2007, he served as quarterbacks coach for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe.
Tranquill replaces Steve Logan, who resigned recently after two years on the BC staff.
