Lacrosse Looks Ahead with the Class of 2009

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College head lacrosse coach Bowen Holden will welcome eight new players to the Heights next fall. The Eagles will look to improve on their 7-10 record from the 2008 season with another standout recruiting class.
"I am thrilled to welcome this class to Boston College," Holden said. "These eight student-athletes are the type of people we want to represent BC. Their character, desire to improve, and willingness to put the team first is evident in all they do. Together, they will bring a positive impact to the Heights next season!"
Katherine Caufield, a midfielder from Chatham, N.J., comes to the Heights with three years of postseason experience under her belt. Caufield is currently a captain on New Jersey's 12th-ranked Oak Knoll School, according to Lax Power. The program has won the Logan Division and NJSIAA Prep A Championships three years running and made the state finals in 2005.
Kathryn Collins, who hails from Alexandria, Va., plays midfield for St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, the third-ranked team in the country. She has consistently made the All-Galaxy team and is a captain on the 2007 Virginia Independent Schools State Champion Saints.
Catherine Conway, an Acton native, minds the net for Acton-Boxborough. In 2007, she played for the Lower New England team at US Lacrosse's National Tournament and earned her school's Athlete of the Year Award.
Elizabeth Donovan is a former teammate of current Eagle Jill Amo. The two played together at Ridgewood High School in New Jersey. The defender now captains the 11th-ranked team in the state. In 2007, she was named a first-team All-North Jersey, first-team All-Suburban, first-team Stars Division and US Lacrosse Academic All-America.
Virginia Gummersall, better known as Ginny, will travel to BC from Wilmette, Ill. She earned All-America, All-State and All-Conference accolades and was named to Inside Lacrosse Magazine's Top 25 Players To Watch List. She was named Illinois' Offensive Player of the Year and broke the record at New Trier Township High School for most goals in a season and a career.
Sam Taylor will join the Eagles from Topsfield, Mass. The midfielder earned first-team All-American and All-League status in 2007 and played for the Lower New England Team I at US Lacrosse's National Tournament. The Pingree School student was named Salem Evening News' Most Valuable Player and is currently the captain of the 2008 team.
Nicole Tufariello, from Lynbrook High School in New York, is a five-year starter and member of the Long Island Elite Yellow Jackets club team. She broke Lynbrook's total points and goals records and is a three-time All-County All-Star.
Rounding out the 2009 class is Brittany Wilton from Garden City, N.Y. Garden City High School won the 2005 Class B Championship and the 2006 and 2007 New York State Championship. Wilton was named to the All-Long Island second team and the All-County team in 2007.
