Baseball Falls to No. 6 Miami, 10-7

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Miami Hurricanes (7-1, 1-0 ACC) scored seven times in the seventh inning to defeat Boston College (6-5, 0-1 ACC), 10-7, Friday evening at Mark Light Field.
The Eagles trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, when Miami exploded for seven runs, including four home runs, to give the Hurricanes the 10-2 lead. The Hurricanes held on and picked up their first conference win of the season.
Barry Butera went 3-for-4 including a triple, two-run homer, three runs scored and three RBIs. The home run marks his fourth of the season.
Marc Perdios added two doubles and a RBI, while Eric Campbell hit a two-run homer in the loss.
In the top of the first inning, Butera hit a stand-up triple of the top of the fence in center field. He would later score on a passed ball to give the Eagles the early 1-0 advantage.
The lead was short lived for BC. In the bottom of the second, No. 9 hitter Jason Hagerty hit a two-run homer to center field putting the Hurricanes on top, 2-1.
With one out in the third, BC tied the score on consecutive hits by Perdios and Butera. Perdios lined a double down the left field line, which was followed by a base hit to right field by Butera, tying the game, 2-2.
Miami broke the 2-2 tie in the fifth. Jemile Weeks hit a two-out triple to center field, followed by a single up-the-middle from Yonder Alonso.
In the seventh, the Hurricanes broke the game open scoring seven runs, including four homers, to extend the lead, 10-2.
BC added two runs in the eighth on a two-run homer by Eric Campbell, to make the score 10-4. The homer by Campbell was his fourth of the season.
The Eagles added three runs in the ninth inning of Miami reliever Michael Rudman.
Perdios knocked in pinch-runner Mike Sudol with his second double of the contest. Butera followed with a two-run homer to left field.
Doyle (1-1) suffered the loss for the Eagles. The senior right-hander worked 6.0 innings of work, tallying seven strikeouts.
BC is back on the diamond tomorrow for game two against the Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Fla. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES: 2B Matt Hamlet extended his hit streak to eight games with an infield single in the fourth inning ... SS Garret Smith made his first start in seven games ... RHP Chris Kowalski made his team-high sixth appearance ... Kowalski tossed 1.1 innings of perfect relief and has not allowed a base runner in his last seven innings of work.
