Baseball Falls to Lehigh in 10 innings, 16-14

LANTANA, Fla. - The Boston College baseball team (3-3, 0-0 ACC) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings, but fell to Lehigh (3-5), 16-14, in 10 innings.
The Eagles trailed 14-11 entering the bottom of the ninth frame. Marc Perdios started the rally by getting hit by a pitch with one out in the inning. Barry Butera followed by hitting a single to right centerfield. Tony Sanchez and Eric Campbell each hit back-to-back RBI singles to cut the deficit to one run, 14-13.
After a Michael Belfiore fly out, Matt Hamlet delivered a RBI single to center to tie the game, 14-14.
Mickey Wiswall was at the plate when Lehigh reliever Andrew Berger (2-1) threw a ball in the dirt that squirted away from catcher Ben Swenson. Campbell made a dash for home plate, but got caught in a run down to end the inning.
The Mountain Hawks scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning off reliever Geoff Oxley (0-1) from a Brendon McGaheran RBI double and Ben Swenson sac fly.
The Eagles were retired in order in the bottom of the 10th by Berger to drop the game, 16-14.
Barry Butera and Mickey Wiswall each had career days at the plate for the Eagles.
After striking out in the first inning, Butera recorded five consecutive hits on way to a 5-for-6 day at the plate. The sophomore tallied three singles, two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
Wiswall made his first collegiate start one to remember. The freshman third baseman went 4-for-6, with two singles, a double, 3-run homer and two runs scored.
Matt Hamlet continued his early offensive success registering a 3-for-3 performance, two runs scored and a RBI.
