Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (9-13, 0-0 ACC) dives into ACC action this weekend, taking on NC State (14-12, 0-0 ACC) for a three-game series beginning March 15.
Neither team has played an ACC opponent this season. The last time the Eagles and Wolfpack met was in the first-round of the 2007 ACC Championship. The No.7-seeded Eagles upset the No.2-seed, blanking them in a 2-0 win. The Wolfpack hold the upper hand in the all-time series, winning seven of the last eight match-ups.
The Eagles look for an offensive spark from junior Renee Ramos, who leads the team in batting average (.355), on-base percentage (.452), slugging percentage (.548), hits (22) and RBIs (14). Ramos currently ranks fifth in the ACC in on-base percentage, and ninth in both individual batting average and slugging percentage.
Freshman pitcher Allison Gage also looks to make an impact in her first collegiate conference action. She currently ranks third in the ACC for innings pitched (80.0), first in appearances (20) and second in games started (12). So far this season, Gage holds a 4-8 record with a 3.15 ERA. She has pitched a team-high five complete games, has walked 23 batters and struck out 35.
NC State is led offensively by Allison Presnell, who holds a team-best .338 batting average. Sophomore Lindsay Campana leads all Wolfpack pitchers with a 7-10 record and a 2.50 ERA. She has struck out 90 batters so far this season.
Game action will begin with a double header on Saturday. The first game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Livestats will be made available through www.gopack.com.
