Baseball Defeats Mount St. Mary's, 7-3

LANTANA, Fla. - Senior Terry Doyle pitched a complete game eight hitter to help the Boston College baseball team defeat Mount St. Mary's, 7-3, Friday evening at the Santaluces Sports Complex.
Doyle set a career-high with 13 strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. The right-hander's previous high was 12 punch outs which he totaled last year against Wake Forest. The complete game marks the third of Doyle's career.
On the offensive side, freshman Matt Hamlet went 3-for-4, collecting two singles, triple and two RBIs. Sophomore Tony Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while junior Eric Campbell hit a solo homerun for the Eagles, who own a 3-1 record on the season.
Mount St. Mary's took an early lead as the second batter of the game, Drew Counselman, hit a solo home run to leftfield to give The Mount an early 1-0 lead.
BC answered in the bottom of the second, when Campbell hit his third homer of the season to leftfield to tie the score, 1-1.
The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Hamlet hit a 2-run single to centerfield, plating Sam Shaughnessy and Campbell.
In the seventh inning the Eagles pushed across four runs to make the score, 7-1.
Hamlet started the seventh with a triple. Brandon Ziemann plated Hamlet with a RBI single to centerfield. After a Robert Anston sac bunt, Marc Perdios hit an infield single to put runners on the corners. Shaughnessy walked to load the bases for Sanchez. The catcher hit a 2-run double to right-centerfield, scoring Ziemann and Perdios. Campbell followed with a RBI groundout, scoring Shaughnessy to give the Eagles a 7-1 lead.
The Mount added two runs in the top of the ninth to make the final score, 7-3.
The Eagles are back on the diamond tomorrow in Lantana, Fla., against St. Bonaventure at noon.
