Baseball Defeats Georgia Southern, 11-7

STATESBORO, Ga. - Four Eagles collected three hits a piece to help lead the Boston College (1-0, 0-0 ACC) baseball team past Georgia Southern (0-1, 0-0 SoCon), 11-7, in game-one of a doubleheader at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Junior Eric Campbell and freshmen Matt Hamlet, Marc Perdios and Garret Smith each tallied three hits on the afternoon.
Campbell finished 3-for-5 including a two-run homerun as part of a 17-hit attack by the Eagles.
Hamlet went 3-for-4 with a two-run homerun, Perdios recorded a 3-for-6 day with a solo homerun, three RBIs and two runs, while Smith went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. All three players made their collegiate debuts in the game.
Campbell and Perdios were each a triple shy of the cycle.
James MacDonald (1-0) pitched 5.0 scoreless innings of relief of starter Terry Doyle, to earn the victory. The junior scattered three hits and recorded three strikeouts on the mound.
BC started off the game with a blast, as Perdios led off the game with a solo homerun to give the Eagles an early, 1-0, advantage.
The Eagles extended their lead, 2-0, in the second inning on a RBI double by Robert Anston.
After Georgia Southern pushed across three runs in the bottom of the second frame, BC answered with three runs of its own. Campbell connected on a two-run homer, while sophomore Michael Belfiore hit a RBI single to make the score, 5-3.
Georgia Southern used a four-run fourth inning to retake the lead, 7-5.
BC made the score, 7-6, in the sixth inning on a RBI groundout by Perdios.
In the seventh inning, BC exploded for five runs to put the game out of reach for Georgia Southern. After Georgia Southern recorded two outs, Belfiore drew a walk. Hamlet followed with a two-run homerun to centerfield. After a Smith single, Anston and Perdios hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Sam Shaughnessy followed with a RBI single to give the Eagles an 11-7 lead.
