Softball Drop First Two Decisions

Greenville, N.C.. - In their first action of the season, the Boston College softball team (0-2, 0-0 ACC) dropped two on the day, falling to Ohio (1-1), by a score of 4-2 and to East Carolina (1-0) by a score of 1-0, at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
Senior Amanda Booth, went 3-for-6 with a run on the day. Freshman pitcher Allison Gage, who got her first collegiate start against East Carolina, pitched 7.1 innings, allowing just six hits and a walk.
Ohio-4, BC-2-- Sophomore Taylor Peyton (0-1) got the start for the Eagles against the Bobcats. Ohio managed to jump out in front early, putting together two runs in the second off a bases loaded walk and scoring on an error. They scored again in the sixth, getting two more runs on RBI singles. Peyton finished the game going six innings, allowing three earned runs off of eight hits.
The Eagles got the things going in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs off Bobcats pitcher Michelle Sauterin (1-0). Senior Amanda Booth started the inning with a single. Junior Renee Ramos then singled through the left side, moving Booth into scoring position. Sophomore Amy Tunstall picked up her first RBI of the season, singling to the right, scoring Booth. Tunstall then stole second, allowing the pinch-runner, freshman Alison Kooistra, to score on the throw. After Tunstall was thrown out at third for the first out, the Eagles were unable to score again, falling to Ohio 4-2.
ECU 1, BC 0-- Boston College and East Carolina went scoreless through the first seven innings. Gage allowed only five hits and a walk through seven frames. Booth led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.
In the top of the eighth, with freshman Irene Delagrammaticas on third after a sacrifice bunt, the Eagles couldn't capitalize. In the bottom of the inning, with a runner on third, sophomore Charina Sumner knocked a single through the right side, giving the Pirates the 1-0 advantage and win. The Eagles combined for eight hits on the game, while East Carolina totaled six. Freshman Britt Howell (2-0) picked up the win, while Gage dropped to 0-1.
The Eagles will face Maine tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the second day of tournament action. They will play again at either 2 or 4 p.m. depending on their seeding.
