Newton, Mass. - Junior midfielder Alejandro Bedoya scored just less than four minutes into the game and senior Sherron Manswell scored 15 minutes later to lead men's soccer to a 2-0 victory over No. 17 Fairfield before 742 fans at Newton Campus Field.
Junior goalkeeper Chris Brown recorded four saves, including one on Sam Bailey in one-on-one situation in the 28th minute, to record his second victory - and second shutout - of the young season.
Midfielder Mike Konicoff assisted on both BC goals.
Bedoya got the Eagles on the board at 3:47, beating Fairfield goaltender Jon Paul Francini (three saves) with his right foot into the right side of the net. Manswell, who assisted on Bedoya's score, doubled the BC margin with his first goal of the season at 18:24.
Boston College (2-1) outshot Fairfield, 17-9, and held a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Fairfield junior Tom Clements redirected Shawn Chin's right-footed shot on a wide-open net to save a goal in the 55th minute. After Francini made the initial save on a Sherron Manswell shot, Chin sent the rebound on net and Clements, who cut across the goal mouth, redirected the ball out of bounds.
Fairfield, which received votes in the NSCAA preseason poll and had improved its ranking to No. 17 after two victories in the St. John's Classic, falls to 2-1 on the season.
Next, Boston College will host Maryland in its ACC opener on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. A video broadcast of the game will be available over the web at accselect.com
