Baltimore, Md. -- Boston College lacrosse will welcome Inside Lacrosse magazine's eighth-ranked recruiting class to campus this fall. The September issue places BC among the elite women's lacrosse schools in the country.
The eight members of the 2011 class are led by Kristin Igoe (Framingham, Mass.), who was also ranked as the 13th best women's recruit by the magazine. Igoe earned the 2007 Boston Globe's Division 1 Player of the Year award and All-American honors in 2006 and 2007. She was also named a 2006 Metrowest Daily News All-Star and Boston Herald All-Scholastic Athlete. In 2006 and 2007, she helped lead Framingham High School to a perfect record and two state championships.
Igoe is joined by Hannah Alley, Jill Amo, Elizabeth Bertoni, Kristen Horsman, Kate Horsman, Jill Rekart and Sheila Serafino. All eight are hoping to make an impact on the Eagle lacrosse program.
Alley, who hails from Lake Forest, Ill., was a three-time All-American and two-year All-State player. She was the leading scorer for the team her junior year, tallying 74 goals and 58 assists.
Amo and Bertoni played together at Ridgewood High School in New Jersey. In 2005 and 2006, they were part of the North Jersey championship team and in 2006 they won the NNJILL championship. Amo led the team in goals (52), points (80) and draw controls (46). She also earned first-team NNJILL, All-North, All-Suburban and All-Galaxy honors. In 2007, she received All-American honorable mention. Bertoni made All-Galaxy second team for the 2005-06 season as well.
The Horsman sisters (Hunt Valley, Md.) come to The Heights with two state championships under their belts. Kristen's list of honors includes two-time first-team All-American, first-team All-Metro and Baltimore Sun's "Player to Watch" in 2006 and 2007. She also earned All-American honorable mention in 2007. Kaitlyn was honored with first-team All-Baltimore County, first-team Towson Times All-Star (2005, 2006) and named an Academic All-American.
Rekart (Ellicott City, Md.) helped lead Mount Hebron High School to four Maryland State 3A Championships and was named to the Baltimore Sun's, Washington Post's and Howard County Times' first-team All-Star lists. She also received first-team All-Howard County honors.
Serafino, a Hamilton, Mass.goalkeeper, earned Cape Ann League All-Star four years in a row. She was the goalie for the Lower New England Team at the Women's National Tournament in 2006 and earned All-American honors her senior year.
The Georgetown Hoyas were ranked the number one recruiting class, followed by ACC-foes Duke and North Carolina. Notre Dame took the four spot and the three-time National Champions Northwestern ranked fifth. Virginia, Maryland, BC, and Penn State filled in six through nine and Dartmouth, the 2005 NCAA runners-up, finished out the top 10.
