TAMPA, Fla. - Men's tennis headed north to Tampa looking to snap their two match losing streak but dropped a 7-0 decision to the University of South Florida yesterday afternoon. The loss is the Eagles' third in a row, and drops their overall record to 4-8. USF improves to 5-6 overall with the win.
The Bulls would claim the first point of the match by sweeping the doubles. Henning Hipp and partner Daniel Daudt made quick work of BC's Sam Wagner and Geoff Mueller in the No. 2 spot with an 8-2 win. The number one and three doubles matches were much closer, but USF would hold on for 8-7 and 8-5 decisions respectively.
On the singles side, BC seemed overmatched, as the Bulls would sweep all six positions without dropping a set. Senior Soma Kesthely would come the closest for the Eagles, pushing USF's Ales Svigelj to a tie-breaker in the second set, but could not breakthrough, as he fell 6-2, 7-6. Freshman Thomas Nolan also lost for the first time in six matches as he dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Henning Hipp.
The Eagles will look to get back on the winning track as they take on Eckerd College, today at 2:30 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla.
