Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team released its 2008 schedule, which includes eight of the 16 games at home. The Eagles will battle six teams ranked in the top 20 last season, including four Atlantic Coast Conference schools in the top six.
BC kicks off its season with a home opener against Maryland on Sunday, Feb. 24. The Eagles have faced the nine-time national champions three times without notching a win, but are hoping to challenge them at the start of the season.
The team then travels to California for two road games against St. Mary's on March 2 and Stanford on March 5. The Eagles have a combined 2-1 record against the west coast teams, including beating St. Mary's in the teams' only meeting in 2005.
Boston College takes on ACC foes Virginia Tech and North Carolina at home in March and faces Duke and Virginia on the road in early April. It plays regional rivals Boston University and Connecticut early in the season and ends the year with matchups against Harvard, Holy Cross and Brown.
The 2007 NCAA runners up, the Virginia Cavaliers, will host the ACC Tournament. The Eagles will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the quarterfinals on April 24. The semifinals will be held on April 25 and the finals on April 27. The first round of the NCAA Tournament starts May 10.
"Our team is looking to make its mark with a tough schedule this year," Head Coach Bowen Holden said. "We are looking for a winning season and to gain valuable experience at the ACC tournament."
