CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team announced the hire of new assistant coach, Jesse Woods, to the help Head Coach Mik Aoki for the 2008 season.
Woods comes to the Heights after assistant coaching for three seasons at Wheaton College. While at Wheaton, Woods assisted with recruiting, game management tasks, implementing practice schedules and calculating team budget. Woods helped Wheaton win three NEWMAC Championships an advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament all three seasons. In 2006, Wheaton advanced to the Division III National Championship game.
"I am thrilled to have Jesse join our baseball program," said Aoki. "He is a quality person who has a passion for both Boston College and baseball. As a player and a coach, he helped Wheaton's baseball program become one of the most successful programs in the country at the D3 level, and I am confident that he will help us to get to that level as well. He is an outstanding evaluator and recruiter and is a great teacher of the game. His knowledge of the game will be invaluable to our players as he works with our outfielders and assists Coach Englert and Coach Hastings with our hitters. I feel very fortunate to have a person with Jesse's integrity, knowledge, and experience joining our baseball family."
Prior to his coaching stint, Woods played first base at Wheaton College from 2001-2004. As a senior captain in 2004, Woods played in 34 games and hit at a .297 clip for the Lyons.
Woods currently owns and operates the Rookie League Baseball School in Boston, Mass. The summer baseball camp, founded in 2006, is for children between the ages of six through 12.
A graduate with degree in history, Woods now teaches physical education and social studies for Boston Public Schools. He resides in South Boston, Mass.
