Home games against national runner-up North Carolina and ACC rival Virginia, as well as non-conference match-ups vs. Vanderbilt and Villanova, highlight the 2007 baseball schedule, which was released Thursday. In addition, the Eagles will travel to Clemson, S.C. to take on the Tigers, picked by the league's head coaches to win the ACC.
"Playing in the ACC and having such a prestigious academic reputation gives us an advantage that no other school from the Northeast has." head coach Mik Aoki says. "With one year in the ACC under our belt, our guys know what to expect and are more confident than a year ago, and I think that is going to make us a better team."
The Eagles' ACC schedule will begin before they know it. After trips to Tennessee and Florida, BC opens its conference schedule on the road against Duke on March 9. It won't get any easier for the Eagles as their first nine ACC games are away from the heights. After trips to Georgia Tech and Florida State, BC hosts its home opener on March 30 vs. North Carolina State.
Just three games into the season, the Eagles take on SEC foe Vanderbilt University before heading south to renew their series with the Boston Red Sox. The two teams will meet for the 17th time on March 2, 2007 at the City of Palms Park. Other non-conference opponents include former Big East rival Villanova University, Rhode Island, and in-state rivals Holy Cross and UMass-Amherst.
The ACC was the nation's toughest conference in 2006. Four ACC schools played their way to the College World Series in Omaha. Entering their second year in conference, the Eagles will face another competitive schedule. But, with the loss of only two seniors, they are looking to make some noise in the always competitive ACC in 2007.
The Eagles open their season on February 23 against Belmont University at 3:00 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
