Thanks to a generous donation from the Boston College Gridiron Club, the BC football team will unveil its new "Gridiron Club Eagle", a 37-inch high cast bronze sculpture with a 30-inch wing span, prior to the Clemson game. The unveiling is part of a celebration of BC's 50th season in Alumni Stadium.
Coach Tom O'Brien plans to establish a new tradition for the team to honor all the student-athletes, alumni, fans and friends of Boston College who have contributed to the heritage of the program through the years. Prior to each home game, as they prepare to enter the field, each member of the team will touch the eagle, similar to traditions at Clemson and Maryland, among others.
The Gridiron Club Eagle is located inside Gate E of Alumni Stadium, adjacent to the team's locker room, and is part of a tradition display installed this summer.
"It's something people can have their picture taken with and be identified with BC," O'Brien says. "We will make this a tradition to pass down to future teams."
