Boston College and Syracuse University have reached an agreement to resume their longstanding rivalry in football, BC Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo and Syracuse A.D. Daryl Gross announced Friday. The two schools have agreed to play a series of eight games, beginning in 2010.
"We are very excited to make this announcement today," DeFilippo says. "Our series with Syracuse is one of our oldest and most competitive. The Eagles and the Orange have met 45 times on the gridiron, dating back to 1924. We're confident our team and fans will embrace this as a real rivalry game for us."
Syracuse holds a 28-17 edge in the all-time series and defeated the Eagles, 43-17, the last time the two teams met, on Nov. 27, 2004. That game ended a stretch of 34 consecutive seasons in which the two teams played.
The Eagles are preparing for Saturday's home and ACC opener vs. the Clemson Tigers, which will be televised by ABC with a 3:36 p.m. kickoff.
