Baseball Drops Game Three To Florida State, 7-5

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - A five-run fourth inning, capped off by a Tony Thomas grand slam, helped lift Florida State to a 7-5 win over Boston College in the final game of a three game series in Chestnut Hill.
Ryne Malone provided the deciding run in the sixth on a solo shot off BC starter Terry Doyle who went 6.2 innings, striking out six and surrendering five earned.
The Eagles jumped on FSU's Barret Browning in the first when Johnny Ayers singled to lead off the inning. After a Ryan Hutchinson walk, Jared McGuire placed a perfect sacrifice bunt, pushing Ayers and Hutchinson to second and third.
Shawn McGill followed with a groundout to third, scoring Ayers, but Hutchinson was thrown out attempting to get to third on the play.
In the top of the fourth, FSU loaded the bases, and Shane Robinson scooted home on a ground ball to first by Malone. Thomas then followed with his grand slam to left, giving the Seminoles a 5-1 lead.
BC continued to have opportunites to score, loading the bases with one out in the bottom half of the fourth, but leaving all three on base. In the fifth, however, Johnny Ayers had one of his four hits on the day, and manufactured a run, stealing second and making it to third on an overthrow and scoring on a groundout by Hutchinson.
Malone put the Noles ahead 6-2 on his solo blast in the sixth, but BC was not done.
A Dave Preziosi single and Jett Ruiz double placed runners on second and third. Joseph Ayers delivered a two-RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-4. Johnny Ayers doubled, sending Joe to third, who would be driven in by a Hutchinson groundout, putting the Eagles within one run.
BC was unable to climb any closer as FSU added an insurance run in the seventh, dropping BC to 16-15-1 and 4-11 in the ACC on the season.
The Eagles will play its fifth consecutive home game tomorrow when they host UCONN at 3 p.m.
Series Notes: The Eagles out-hit the Seminoles 29-22 on the weekend...BC pitchers struck out 31 batters in the three games...Jett Ruiz was 6 for 11 in the series...BC left 22 runners on base...Florida State moves to 31-4 overall and 12-3 in the ACC
