Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College stole home twice and Jett Ruiz added a solo home run to give the Eagles a 7-4 win over Northeastern at Shea Field.
Northeastern first baseman Mike Tamsin jumped on BC starter Ted Ratliff in the top of the first, depositing a solo homer over the left field fence to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles quickly got the run back in the bottom of the second when they loaded the bases off Northeastern starter Matt Carrington. Johnny Ayers delivered a single, driving in Pete Frates who reached on a walk, but Carrington was able to pitch his way out of the inning, leaving the bases loaded and the score tied at 1-1.
BC loaded the bases again in the third on a single by Dave Preziosi and back-to-back hit batters. Frates followed, drilling a single to center, scoring Shawn McGill and Preziosi to make the score 3-1. On a Ruiz steal of second, Eric Campbell was able to scoot home to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
After Ryan Hutchinson led off the fourth with a single and Jared McGuire reached on an error, the Eagles successfully executed its second double steal of the game, as Hutchinson slid home safely, putting the Eagles ahead 5-1. Ruiz would later add the solo homer for insurance.
Ratliff settled in and did not allow another hit until the fifth inning when the Huskies were able to load the bases and scored one on a walk.
Northeastern pushed two more across in the sixth, but could not get any closer as Nick Asselin and Matt Meyer came on in relief to stop the Huskies.
BC welcomes No. 3 ranked Florida State to Shea Field Friday for the first game of a three-game series at 2:30 p.m.
