Softball Splits with Maryland

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Amanada Klimczak pitched six strong innings and hit her first career home run to lead the Eagles to an 8-5 win over Maryland on Saturday, April 22, at BC's Shea Field. The Eagles recorded six home runs between both games and collected 12 RBIs. Klimczak struck out six batters and went 2-for-2, driving in three runs on a home run and a double. In the first game of the doubleheader the Eagles fell 9-5. Boston College now stands at 18-22 and 3-14 in the ACC.
In game one, Britney Thompson smacked her team-leading ninth home run of the season to give the Eagles their only lead of the game. Renee Ramos, who had reached first base on a bunt, scored on the play.
In the top of the third the Terrapins knotted the game at two, with a Lindsay Klein double to left-center field. With runners on second and third, Thompson struck out Amanda D'Attilio to end the inning and prevent the Terps from taking the lead.
In the top of the fourth the Terps had a five-run inning, claiming the lead with a two-run home run off the bat of Whitney Reigel. They extended the lead to five with their third home run of the game from Keri Lounge.
The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases on a Savana Lloyd single down the middle. Boston College tacked on another run when Amanda Booth walked on the next play and drove in Renee Ramos.
Elena Ferrero recorded her 35th RBI of the season on a double, driving in Macchi in the fifth inning.
Macchi cut the deficit to four in the seventh with a solo home run to left field. Macchi is currently batting .404 on the season.
In game two, Booth ended the top half of the inning with a nice diving catch in right field. Kristin Allain got the Eagles on the board in the bottom half with a solo home run - her second of the year. Lindsey Ubrun tied the score with a solo home run of her own in the top of the second.
In the second inning, the Eagles stranded three bases runners, however in the third Boston College responded with three runs on four hits. Renee Ramos hit her first career home run and Elena Ferrero followed up with a single to left field. Britney Thompson hit the Eagles third consecutive shot to place runners on first and second. Amanada Klimczak doubled, driving in Ferrero. Thompson scored on a wild pitch to give the Eagles the 4-1 edge.
Ashley Obrest's single to right-center field drove in Kristin Allain in the fourth inning. Klimczak belted out her first career home run in the fifth inning, driving in Amanda Brooks, who was pinch running for Ferrero.
Maryland closed the gap in the sixth inning with two runs on a home run and single to center field, however in the bottom half of the inning Obrest responded with a solo home run. Maryland mounted a comeback in the seventh with two runs, however Savana Lloyd came in on the mound in relief and earned her second save of the season. With the win, Klimczak improves to 3-3 on the season.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. in the final game of the three-game series with Maryland.
