Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Three runs in the first two innings and a strong effort by starter Jason Berken helped Clemson take the rubber match of a three game series, 4-1, in Chestnut Hill.
A single and a stolen base by Brad Chalk allowed Taylor Harbin to drive him home for the one-run lead. Tyler Colvin, who had reached on a walk and advanced to third on Harbin's RBI, would make the score 2-0 on a balk by BC starter Nate Jeanes.
Herman Demmink singled home Marquez Smith to make the score 3-0 for the Tigers, but the Eagles would grab a run back in its half of the second.
Dave Preziosi walked and after Shawn McGill advanced him to second on a groundout, he reached third via a Berken wild pitch. Jett Ruiz then doubled home BC's first and only run of the game.
Nick Asselin pitched well in relief for the Eagles giving up only 2 hits in 3.1 innings, but the pitching of Berken and reliever Ryan Hinson, in addition to some fine defensive plays, held the Eagles to six hits throughout.
BC drops to 20-20-1 and 5-16 in the ACC, while Clemson moves to 29-12 overall and 12-5 in the conference.
The Eagles will play URI in Kingston on Monday at 3:30 p.m. and the Beanpot Finals at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Fenway Park.
