Women's Lacrosse Defeated By No. 1 Duke, 19-5

Newton, Mass. - Senior Lizette Blohm tallied a game-high five draw controls while also leading the Eagles with two goals and an assist as BC was defeated by the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils. Sophomore Shauna Culhane also added a pair of goals for the Eagles as BC scored four of the last five goals of the game. The Blue Devils improve to 12-1 on the season as the Eagles fall to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in ACC play.
Duke started the game off on a 9-0 run. Katie Chrest opened the scoring for the Blue Devils. After Leigh Jester tallied a goal on a free position shot Chrest scored her second of the game on a pass from Kaitlin Hancock. Carolyn Davis and Michelle Menser also added a pair of goals in the half while Hancock and Rachel Sanford each added a goal and an assist.
The Eagles scored their first goal as freshman Maura Mahoney scored with 1:03 remaining in the half on a free-position shot.
In the second half, Duke went on another 9-0 run before BC was able to tally another score. Caroline Cryer scored three second half goals and Waagbo recorded a goal and three assists.
Blohm scored her first goal of the game off a pass from junior Claire Bowersox with 6:05 remaining in the game to bring the score to 18-2. Culhane scored next for the Eagles on a free-position goal to make the score 19-3 at 3:11. Blohm and Culhane would then score their second goals within less than a minute of each other at 2:21 and 1:32 respectively to round out the scoring for the game as the Blue Devils eventually took the win, 19-5.
The Eagles had the advantage in the game for draw controls as they took 14 while Duke tallied 12.
Freshman Katie Monaghan earned the start and played most of the game, made six saves. Senior Tara McKennett who came in relief of Monaghan at the end of the first half notched two saves.
The Eagles host the Holy Cross Crusaders next on April 19 at the Newton Campus Field at 5 p.m.
