Women's Lacrosse Defeats Harvard, 15-9

Cambridge, Mass. - Freshman midfielder Margot Spatola scored a game-high four goals, including three in the second half, as Boston College defeated Harvard University Friday evening, 15-9. Senior tri-captain Elizabeth Kadison notched three goals while freshman Jenna McCabe tallied four points on two goals and two assists in the win as the Eagles improve to 5-3 overall.
Harvard scored early as they jumped out to a 3-1 lead, after goals by Natalie Curtis and Kaitlin Martin just 55 seconds apart early in the half. But the Eagles answered back with a 5-0 run of their own, sparked by Emily Hannigan's free position goal with 17:25 left in the half. Boston College gained its first lead of the game on McCabe's goal that gave the Eagles a 4-3 lead, and McCabe fed Maura Mahoney and Lauren Fitzpatrick on back-to-back goals to make it 6-3 at the 10:57 mark.
Harvard got the last two goals of the first half as Curtis and Martin answered for the Crimson, which closed the gap to 6-5 at the break. But Kadison struck for the Eagles just 1:22 into the second half to spark a 3-0 run, with Spatola and Mahoney scoring on free positions to put Boston College ahead, 9-5.
Harvard scored again to bring the game within two, but Spatola increased the lead to three after taking the ball in from midfield and beat Harvard goalie Kathryn Tylander to make it 10-7.
Spatola scored her fourth and final goal of the game with 16:08 left to give the Eagles an 11-8 lead to put them up for good.
Six different Boston College players scored at least two goals in the win.
Freshman goalie Katie Monaghan made 10 saves for the Eagles while causing one turnover.
The Eagles finished with a 39-26 advantage in shots and had 17 draw controls to Harvard's nine.
Boston College hosts Boston University on Wednesday, March 29 at the Newton Campus field at 4:00 p.m.
