Boston College freshman Jenna McCabe led the Eagles with five points on two goals and three assists against Fairfield University on Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles defeated the Stags, 15-9. Freshman Emily Hannigan tallied her third straight three-goal game and classmate Maura Mahoney notched two goals and two assists as six Eagles tallied at least two goals on the afternoon. The Eagles now improve to 4-3 overall on the season.
Junior Katherine Wagoner scored first for the Eagles at 28:51 as BC jumped out to a quick, 1-0 lead. McCabe scored two minutes later as the Eagles controlled the scoring pace for the entire game, never trailing the Stags. Fairfield's Amy Neville and Rebecca White scored next to tie up the game, but BC answered back with five straight goals over the next 10 minutes to put the Eagles up, 7-2. During BC's 5-0 run, both Hannigan and Mahoney scored twice keeping the Stag's defense on their toes. Fairfield scored once more in the half as the two teams went into halftime with the score 7-3.
Thirty-six seconds into the second half, freshman Margot Spatola scored her second goal of the day off passes from freshmen McCabe and Mahoney.
BC's next two goals were scored on free-position shots as Wagoner tallied her second goal and tri-captain Elizabeth Kadison notched her first of the day putting the Eagles ahead, 10-3.
Senior Beth Loffredo led all Fairfield scorers with five points on four goals and one assist. All four goals came in the second half.
After Hannigan notched her third goal of the day with 10:57 remaining in the game, the Stags scored three straight goals to cut the lead to five. But BC would score once more as McCabe scored her final goal of the day to give the Eagles the win, 15-9.
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made 11 total saves on the day while causing three turnovers and collecting four groundballs.
The Eagles next travel cross-town as they take on host Harvard University on Friday, March 24, at 5 p.m.
